Lu's acupuncture therapy encapsulates the academic theories and practical experiences of the Lu acupuncture school, as exemplified by Lu Shouyan.

Lu's acupuncture therapy originated in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, and has since become one of the most influential schools of acupuncture in China and abroad. The most pivotal figure in its development was Lu Shouyan, who played a crucial role in its formation and advancement. Lu Shouyan's biological father, Li Peiqing, who was a student of Chen Mulan and known as the "magic needle," introduced him to the practice at an early age. Lu Shouyan began his medical career at the age of 18 and quickly gained fame in Shanghai. He made significant contributions to the inheritance, promotion, and enhancement of acupuncture medicine. However, with Lu Shouyan's direct disciples now elderly and few successors in place, the application and research of Lu's acupuncture therapy are at risk of fading.

Lu's acupuncture is known for its comprehensive and self-contained academic system, precise acupuncture techniques, and high efficacy, earning recognition both in China and internationally. The key achievements of Lu's acupuncture therapy include: 1. Focused research and enhancement of acupuncture theory. 2. Emphasis on pulse diagnosis to improve diagnostic accuracy. 3. Advocacy for the use of unconventional methods to increase clinical effectiveness. 4. Pioneering experimental research on acupuncture techniques in China, contributing to the development of acupuncture science. 5. Promotion of warm needles, hidden needles, and hidden moxibustion, as well as the concept of treating winter diseases in summer, all of which have had a lasting impact. 6. Improvement of acupuncture tools, including the creation of "thin swallow-style" gold and silver needles and stainless steel needles. 7. Establishment of the "New China Acupuncture Society" and correspondence courses, thereby nurturing a large number of talents through both traditional master-apprenticeship and formal education. 8. Creation of the electric glass teaching model for meridians and acupoints, providing the first modern, visual teaching aids for acupuncture meridian instruction. 9. Authorship of influential books that have spread academic ideas, significantly impacting the global acupuncture community.
