Zhu's One Finger Zen Massage Therapy was established by Mr. Zhu Chunting, a sixth-generation doctor from a traditional Chinese medicine family in Huangqiang, Jiading, Shanghai. The legacy of this practice has since been passed down to his son, Mr. Zhu Dingcheng.
Zhu's One Finger Zen Massage is one of the most renowned modern Chinese massage schools. Its foundation is rooted in the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine and the One Finger Zen Massage method developed by Bodhidharma. The school encompasses more than ten massage techniques, including pushing, holding, pressing, rubbing, and a combination of pushing and rubbing. The essence of the school lies in the One Finger Zen Massage, characterized by "using fingers instead of needles" and "external treatment for internal diseases." Its unique concepts and therapies, such as "all methods return to one," "meridian diagnosis and treatment," and "gentle and comfortable" approaches, are particularly effective in treating a range of internal and external conditions, including spleen and stomach diseases, poliomyelitis, headaches, irregular menstruation, pediatric dysplasia, cervical spondylosis, and osteoarthritis.
After the founding of New China, Zhu Chunting was appointed by East China Hospital, where he pioneered the field of Chinese massage. Over more than half a century of clinical practice, Zhu's One Finger Zen Massage has continuously expanded its scope in massage medicine, health care, and rehabilitation. The school has also integrated new treatment concepts and methods, such as "preventive treatment," while maintaining a people-oriented approach and offering personalized services. Specialized clinics and TCM studios for conditions like insomnia and cervical vertigo have been established. Zhu Chunting, along with his son Zhu Dingcheng, has dedicated himself to public healthcare and high-level cadre wellness, earning widespread recognition for alleviating patients' pain. Zhu's One Finger Zen Massage has significantly contributed to the advancement of public health and wellness through the wisdom of Chinese medicine.
Zhu's One Finger Zen Massage has also made significant strides in China's massage education. Zhu Chunting authored numerous books and founded China's first professional massage education school, breaking away from the traditional family inheritance or master-apprentice model that had persisted in TCM for thousands of years. This innovative approach to classroom teaching in massage education has produced students who are now spread across the globe.
Zhu Chunting is the only massage medical scientist listed in the "Da Ci Hai" (2003 edition). The "Shanghai Health Records" (1998 edition) recognizes "Zhu's Massage" as one of the notable TCM schools. Additionally, One Finger Zen Massage is the only massage school included in the "Ci Hai" (1936 edition).
